Following the conclusion of the 71st session of the IMO Marine Environmental Protection Committee (MEPC) in July 2017, DNV GL will host a two-part seminar with sessions focused on two of the most significant challenges facing the maritime industry.

These sessions will also be offered as a webinar.  Use the registration links below.

Session 1: Global Sulfur Cap 2020
The IMO has agreed on a global fuel sulfur limit of 0.5% which will enter into force in 2020. The implementation and timeline are now confirmed, and it is estimated that up to 70,000 ships may be affected. To gain a competitive edge in the market, operators need to look at strategies to address the sulfur cap and decide on plans for compliance soon.

Session 2: Ballast Water Management
With amendments to IMO’s Ballast Water Management Convention approved, the regulation enters into force on September 8, 2017. For operators with vessels that discharge ballast water, this means that they must have a treatment system installed on their vessels. The schedule and decisions required will depend on many factors, including if the vessel also needs to comply with the USCG & EPA Ballast Water Regulations.

What will you gain from attending this seminar:

  • An understanding of the regulatory landscape
  • Insights into the different compliance options and cost comparisons for different scenarios
  • Knowledge of the choices and challenges with systems and components
  • An overview of our services and tools related to compliance and decision support
