CHOP Certification is an "individual" Certification designed for Operations Professionals working in the healthcare environment. CHOP (B) is our first of the CHOP series and is developed at the basic level. The Training portion of this course consists of three, (3) days of instructor-led, classroom training. The classroom portion is followed by an electronic exam. Approved participants must complete and pass with a minimum score of 80%. The exam will be available for ONE, (1) TWO HOUR timed attempt within a 14 day window. Although anyone in the healthcare setting may attend the training there is a requirement to complete the application process for those wishing to sit for the exam and to become CHOP certified.
Prerequisites for exam and formal certification - High school diploma or equivalent plus three (3) years of associated Physical Environment experience*, two (2) years of which must have been in a healthcare setting.
*Associated Physical Environment experience refers to work experience in the following functional areas: ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems, Facilities, Life Safety Management, Safety Management, Security Management, Hazard Materials Management, Emergency Management, Medical Equipment and Utility Management Systems.
This course; CHOP (B) is the first in a 3-part series of CHOP courses. The next release will be CHOP, Advanced (A). That course will mainly focus on hospital equipment; maintenance, reporting and the regulatory requirements aligned with them. CHOP (A) is slated for release Q3-Q4, 2018 and will have additional prerequisites to sit for the exam to be CHOP (A) Certified. The 3rd and last installment will be CHOP Executive, (E). The last level will delve into the executive responsibilities of the Operations Professional. Topics addressed will be budgeting, leadership reporting and other aspects critical to the Operations Professionals’ roles and responsibilities within a healthcare setting. CHOP (E) is slated for development and release early in 2019.

All participants must have access to a computer with internet connection to complete the CHOP exam. Participants must pass the exam with a minimum score of 80%. Upon completion of the test, the professional will receive immediate feedback on the passing or failing of the exam.
- If the exam is passed, a certificate will be electronically sent for their record with the DNV GL watermark, the amount of contact hours granted, and a description describing the meaning/purpose of the certification.
- If the exam is not passed, the applicant may pay a fee and re-apply to sit for the exam, no sooner than 30 days from the last attempt.
The acceptable Continuing Education is subject to review. These credits can be accepted from various sources inside and outside the DNV GL organization, such as ASHE, CHFM, etc. They must be related to healthcare’s Physical Environment setting. Areas of concentration shall come from topics such as, ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems, Facilities, Life Safety Management, Safety Management, Security Management, Hazard Materials Management, Emergency Management, Medical Equipment and Utility Management Systems.
To ensure availability to continuing education, DNV GL Healthcare Training department will develop further programs to support this requirement, i.e. webinar series covering each of the Physical Environment Standards as well as ISO 9001.
CHOP B (Basic) Retake Exam is available to any participant who has completed the 3 Day CHOP B classroom course. Application and Resume must be submitted fourteen (14) days prior to exam start date.
